Heavenly Rewards: Investing in Eternity

earthly generosity

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven” (Matthew 6:19–21).

“Treasures” in this context refers to anything you value: money, possessions, status, achievements, time, talents, or even personal identity. “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21) means your affections and priorities shape your life’s direction.

Storing up treasures in heaven means living with God at the center of your life. It’s a continual lifestyle of faithfulness, generosity, and devotion, so that when you die, your “treasures” are not earthly possessions, but the eternal rewards and relationship with God that last forever

We store up heavenly treasures by:

  • Serving God with all our heart — work as if serving the Lord, not human masters (Colossians 3:23–24)
  • Generous giving — sharing resources with others, especially the poor (Luke 12:33; 1 Timothy 6:18–19)
  • Compassionate acts — helping others in need, reflecting God’s love (Proverbs 19:17; Matthew 25:35–40)
  • Faithful endurance — remaining loyal to God through trials (James 1:12; Revelation 2:10)
  • Steadfast Worship — prayer, fasting, and almsgiving without seeking praise (Matthew 6:4, 6, 18)
  • Stewarding your gifts — using talents and vocations to build His kingdom (Matthew 25:14–30).

Therefore, as we fast and pray during the month of July may these statements be points of focus.

  1. Lord, help me value eternal things above temporary things.Father, turn my heart away from worldly distractions and help me seek Your Kingdom first.
  2. Lord, give me a heavenly perspective. Help me make decisions that honor You and have eternal value rather than pursuing only earthly gain.
  3. Lord, guard my heart from materialism and greed. Teach me to be content with what You have provided and to trust You as my source.
  4. Lord, make me generous. Give me a willing heart to share my resources, time, and talents for the advancement of Your Kingdom.
  5. Lord, help me invest in people. Open my eyes to opportunities to encourage, disciple, serve, and lead others to Christ.
  6. Lord, strengthen my commitment to prayer and Your Word.Help me build spiritual treasures through a deeper relationship with You.
  7. Lord, help me serve faithfully. Let my service be done with humility, love, and a desire to glorify You rather than seeking recognition from people.
  8. Lord, purify my motives. Search my heart and remove pride, selfish ambition, and anything that would hinder my devotion to You.
  9. Lord, help me endure in righteousness. Give me strength to remain faithful even when obedience requires sacrifice.
  10. Lord, use my life for eternal impact. Let every gift, opportunity, and blessing You have given me be used to bring glory to Your name.
  11. Lord, teach me to seek Your approval above man's approval. May my greatest desire be to hear, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
  12. Lord, keep my eyes fixed on eternity. Help me live each day with the awareness that this world is temporary and that my true citizenship is in heaven.

In His Service,

Pastor Rose
