Matthew 6:16-18 NKJV

16“Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

As we purpose to have our faith in God’s promises strengthened, I’m asking our church family to collectively enter a 21-day period of fasting and praying; asking God to give us wisdom to receive revelation regarding verses pertaining to who we are as His children.

In the Bible, fasting refers to abstaining from all food, certain types of food, and sometimes even water. Some people fast from soda or sweets. Daniel fasted from everything but vegetables and water (Daniel 1:12). However, we may need to fast or abstain from other things in our lives that consume a large amount of our attention from God.

If we neglect to intentionally connect with God when we fast, we’re just “not eating”. God is eager to reveal Himself to us and when we fast, we hear from Him better. As you seek God for wisdom and revelation of His Word, consider keeping a journal to record the insights He reveals to you.

This time of consecration will begin January 1 through January 21, 2023. We’ll read verses each day. You can find the document on our website or in the Cornerstone Weekly email.  After reading the scripture, worship the Lord in song, prayer, and take the Lord’s supper.

Anticipate having an encounter with God during these 21 days of praying and fasting.

In His Service,

Pastor Rose
