the heart of worship

Family,

Psalm 103:1-5 NKJV

  • Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His
    holy name!
  • Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits:
  • Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases,
  • Who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with
    lovingkindness and tender mercies,
  • Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

We are aware that God created us to worship Him. For scripture states in Psalm 150:6 “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord”. The heart of worship is not the music or song. The heart of worship is having our mind and heart in joyful awe of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

No matter how difficult life become, with a pure heart we must bless the Lord. His praise must continually be in our mouth. When we feel as though we have nothing for which to praise God, we must be reminded of Psalm 103 verses 1-5. For when David wrote this Psalm of praise to God, he focused on God’s glorious deeds.

Like David, we need to praise God for whom He is. We need to praise God for pardoning our sin; healing our sickness and disease; His protective hedge; redeeming us from destruction; protecting us from danger seen and unseen; His loving kindness; His love and His tender mercies; His compassion. We must praise God for long life and for our youth being renewed like an eagle.

The eagle is long-lived and when the eagle is old, it sheds all their feathers and fresh feathers grow so that it becomes young again. Thus, when God, by His grace and mercy comforts us, by His Spirit, He recovers us from decay. God fills us with new life.  He gives us hope of eternal life and restores us as in the days of our youth.

Thus, when we think on these things, truly our heart will begin to sing:

I worship you Almighty God, there is none like You. I worship You O Prince of Peace, that is what I long to do. I give You praise. For You are my righteousness. I worship You, Almighty God, there is none like You!

In His Service,
