For it is Written…
Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. - Matthew 6:24
Family,
As believers in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, there are countless rewards in following Jesus such as no condemnation, the Holy Spirit praying for us, overwhelming victory, everlasting life, and a crown of righteousness.
When Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the entire human race was sentenced to death row, justly condemned and guilty of breaking God’s Holy law. When we establish a relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ the Son, He declares us not guilty and offers us life and freedom from the penalty of sin which is death, and enables us to live holy acceptable lives unto Him. Without Jesus, we wouldn’t have any hope. “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” - Romans 8:1 NKJV
As we follow Jesus, we can be assured that when we don’t know how to pray, the Holy Spirit will pray for us: “And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers[a] in harmony with God’s own will.” - Romans 8:26-27 NLT
We can have peace knowing we have overwhelming victory in Christ Jesus and because of His love, we’re more than conquerors: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” - Romans 8:35-37 NKJV
The greatest reward for following Jesus is everlasting life which begins the moment we receive Him as our Lord and Savior. Our new life begins, and old things are passed away and all things become new: “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” - John 5:24 NKJV
As we faithfully follow Jesus and complete our assignment on this side of heaven, the Crown of Righteousness awaits us. “Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” - 2 Timothy 4:8 NKJV
Let’s follow Jesus and anticipate His return and stay focused by forgetting those things which are behind and instead, reach forward to those things which are ahead. Pressing toward the goal, the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
