The Cross

During this season, as we remember the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord and Savior,Jesus Christ, we may watch movies such as the Ten Commandments and Passion of Christ. However, as we remember, let us focus on the cross. For the cross was the focus of Jesus’ mission while He was here on earth.

On the night Jesus was betrayed, He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then He broke it in pieces and said “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me”. In the same way, He took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and His people, an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this to remember me as often as you drink it”. For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until He comes again. (1 Corinthians 11:23-26 NLT)

Jesus instructed us to participate in this memorial of His death for it is the key to our salvation and the key to our mission in sharing the Good News of the Gospel.

Through the cross, we are given freedom. We are no longer prisoners of the law.
Through the cross, we are no longer slaves of sin and passions.
Through the cross, we have overcome the world and the evil one.
Through the cross, we have victory through our Lord, Jesus Christ.
